– The Role of Common Mode Chokes in Modern Data Lines
As data rates increase and device footprints shrink, keeping signal lines clean becomes a critical engineering challenge. Our latest white paper covers the fundamentals of Common Mode Chokes (CMCs) and how they address EMI in high-speed data lines across a wide range of applications.
The paper explains how CMCs work: by presenting high impedance to common mode noise while allowing differential data signals to pass with minimal attenuation effectively filtering interference without disrupting the signal.
Key application areas covered include consumer electronics, industrial automation, automotive electronics, and high-speed communications infrastructure such as Ethernet and PoE. The white paper also outlines the critical parameters to consider when selecting a CMC; cutoff frequency, DC resistance, and current-carrying capacity — and explains why component choice matters for EMC compliance and system reliability.
We offer a broad range of standard CMC configurations, from compact 0402 and 0603 toroid types to larger bobbin and H-core designs, covering everything from low-power signal lines to high-current applications.
